My name is Leandro Agostini. I’m 34 years old, married and father of two wonderful children with five years and the youngest 2 years.
I had a very busy childhood, always practicing some sports. I started with swimming, did Judo, Soccer, Tennis, not mentioning all the games and ball games in the street that were routine with friends. I was never the best, but I always highlighted in all the sports I practiced.
And this way I grew up: always active, never passed the limits of my ideal weight. At the age of 19 I joined the Brazilian Army, a preparation of Reserve Officer (NPOR), and had daily instructions from various military affairs, in addition to the physical activities. Every day we were doing exercises using only body weight, like push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, burpees and of course running. We ran 10k, 14k or 18k – and sometimes it was not just a run. We carried uniforms, combat boots, rifle and backpack. The army also distinguished myself among friends (just did not get along with running), and this year I reached my best shape ever.
A phase of sedentary lifestyle threw me back
After a year of military service, I began to dedicate myself to the studies at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and worked in an automotive company. I had no longer (or better, I thought I hadn’t) time for physical activity. And these following years were virtually sedentary. Almost 13 years with very little physical activity followed, uncontrolled nutrition, a few business trips to China… I gained weight and came to 78kg (I’m 1,70m and my ideal weight is in the range of 65kg). That’s when I realized I needed to do something. By chance I saw a video on Facebook that led me to meet Freeletics. When assessing the application images, it charmed me right away because I had charts, comparison of results, competetion with your best result, etc. I decided to start! I chose a workout called Aphrodite, pressed play and started to do the burpees. Upon arriving at the twentieth repetition I couldn’t stand up anymore (and had to make 150 in total)… Really, burpees are an exercise that require a lot of physical work of the whole body – but what stopped me was the thought of “it is very difficult”, “I will not be able to even get half through” and ” I have to be crazy to do exercises like these”. And so I gave up. On the first try. That was in February 2014.
In November 2014, I decided I had to practice some sports. I wanted a sport that works the entire body and burn many calories during a match. I started playing squash, but it was one or two classes per week only, and to evolve, I needed something more. In February 2015 (exactly one year after giving up Freeletics), I went back to use the application, and this time it was for real.
The mental battle was harder than anything else
And the mental battle began again. The first two or three weeks were really hard. Hard because of the workouts, but especially hard because of my mind, which always told me to quit, to stop halfway, and sometimes even not to begin a workout. But after a few weeks, results began to appear and this mental battle was falling behind the desire to go beyond. In a few months I had a great evolution and started to be among the most advanced athletes practicing Freeletics in Brazil. The more workouts I did, the more positive I conquered, and with every new result my desire to go beyond increased. That was when I met Eduardo Santos with a proposal for a monthly challenge.
I decided to face it. It lasted four weeks, five days of training per week. Discipline and commitment were this time the key. I was not used to this intensity of training and I had to adapt, sometimes I needed to get up early to be able to keep up with the challenge. But the results I got made up for all the difficulties, and from that moment on I never stopped with Goliaz. The first challenge was in July 2015, then in September 2015, focused on increasing VO2Max, in November 2015 another challenge, ALL IN, along with the beginning of the Goliaz Transformation Project, which lasted four months and which I can say really changed me. In January 2016 I made it through the Challenge Goliaz Beast Mode and now, while writing this, we are in the beginning of Goliaz ABS to MAX.
Goliaz is my everyday surprise
But what attracted me to Goliaz? Only the fact that it is a challenge? Well, also, but what attracts me most is not receiving a “cake recipe” with a weekly program of all that has to be done. In Goliaz, we get today the exercises/workouts for the next day, then this hint of suspense ensures that there is no routine. Every day we have a surprise, a different workout, which challenges you to go beyond, overstep our boundaries. Everything is tailored to your fitness, no matter if you are sedentary or a super athlete. And one thing that has evolved over time and makes Goliaz a perfect program is the inclusion of controling our food. We know exactly what our daily caloric need is and how many grams of each macro (protein, carbohydrate and fat) we should eat daily, considering our daily activities.
As I said, Goliaz Challenges and the Transformation Project really improved myself. I went back to have the condition and fitness level of when I was 19 and in the army, and more than that – the mental transformation was the one that brought me the most benefits. I created a new routine with family. I can consiliar work, attention to children and wife and training without any problem. It is not just the 5 Goliaz training sessions – I decided to go weekly for additional 20km cycling, 10km run, 2km swimming and two games of Squash. There is no lack of time to do whatever you want to do. If someone says he has no time for anything, it’s because it’s not important to him…
I am very grateful to have met Eduardo Santos and through him several other people around the world who are same excited about Goliaz like me and that I consider all great friends. A huge family, and even if we are far apart from each other, we are moving in the same direction, to become better people and be an inspiration for young athletes who are facing the Goliaz every passing day.
Thanks also to my wife Ana accompanying me in physical activities. She was inspired by my activities, and today she can not spend a day without exercising, too.
